One more visit?
Prime minister invites Pope to homeland

At a private audience in Rome on January 3, Polish Prime Minister
Leszek Miller issued an invitation for Pope John Paul II to visit his native land again in 2002.

The invitation came at the close of a private discussion between Miller and the Pontiff. Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said that the conversation had centered on relations between Poland and the Holy See, and the general situation in Europe.

Asked how the Pope had responded to the invitation, Miller told reporters that there had not been enough time for any response. Some Italian journalists have speculated that the Pope might travel to Poland—making what would be his 8th trip there since assuming Peter’s throne—during the early summer of 2002, combining the trip with some time for relaxation in his homeland.
