Bid to approve cloning?
Leaked document may signal policy change

A leak to the media has revealed that the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, set up recently by Health Minister Alan Rock, have prepared guidelines for the legalized use of human embryos in research, including research that could lead to human cloning.

The leaked report seems to indicate Canada will join Britain as the only Western countries to offer legal approval for research that could pave the way for human cloning. Britain has earned the condemnation of the European Union for its decision several months ago to allow so-called “therapeutic cloning.”
