Bombing in Catholic Church
Only minor injuries
A bomb blast outside a Catholic church in Yemen on New Year’s Day did not cause any serious injuries according to local officials.
The blast outside the Church of Jesus in the city of Aden destroyed part of a wall surrounding the church. No one claimed responsibility for the blast, but police detained three people for questioning and set up roadblocks around the church’s perimeter, the officials said. There are just five Catholic churches in Yemen, all of them in Aden, serving the 3,000 Christian non-citizen workers in the Muslim country.
The Church of Jesus, which was restored in the early 1990s, also houses a clinic set up by the France-based aid group Doctors Without Borders.
