Undermining the regime
Religious leaders, rights activists accused

Vietnam’s Prime Minister has said opponents of the country’s Communist government are using religion and human rights to undermine the regime, according to the Communist Party newspaper Nhan Dan.

Prime Minister Phan Yan said, “(Hostile forces) have taken advantages of ‘hot spots’ and complicated issues such as religious and ethnic issues to cause disturbances.” He did not give any examples of the alleged plots.

International rights groups and some foreign governments, including Catholic groups, accuse Vietnam of restricting religious and political freedoms—charges that Hanoi denies.
