Why so much hype about the end of the world? Actually it's normal around this time of year, not because 12/12/12 is approaching, rather it's a mixture of the end of the Liturgical season, and the beginning of Advent.
The end and the beginning.
Notice that the end comes before the beginning. Well kind of; actually we start over. However it fits well with the end of the world as we know it, because that's precisely what will happen. We will start over, but with new life - with life everlasting.
Jesus says to his disciples in today's Gospel: "When these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand."
It's interesting to take note that everlasting life is not optional; God will give the just AND the unjust a new life and a new body. Whether they make it with this new body into heaven or hell will depend on them.
