When faced with the horror of evil, many people are quick to blame God...

43 years ago, a 15-year old girl was beaten into submission with a baseball bat and raped.

   Last week, a man named Ken called in on the WMAL radio program The Chris Plante Show to tell us the ending of that story.

   Ken is a happily married father of three. But if it hadn't been for that tragic event, he wouldn't be a father or husband. His children wouldn't exist. His wife would still be lucklessly hunting for the man of her life. Because the 15-year old girl who was raped is Ken's mother.

   She was pressured to abort, to erase every last trace of that terrible day. But she didn't. She chose to have Ken. She put him up for adoption and they were reunited 30 years later when Ken decided to find the mother he never knew.

   Ken's mother only wanted to let Ken live, to give him a chance at the beautiful childhood that had been brutally taken from her. What she ended up doing was giving Ken's wife a loving husband, and Ken's children a devoted father.

   When faced with the horror of evil, many people are quick to blame God. Quick to demand that he fix what he so coldly allowed to go wrong. What they often don't understand is that God's merciful answer is already there, waiting to be discovered. Rape is one of the most terrible things one person can do to another—Ken says that if he ever found his biological father, the first thing he would do would be to punch him in the face. But that evil already contained the seeds of God's answer, something good waiting to be unearthed. As Ken himself put it over the radio, "That's me." He, his wife, and his three children—one adopted just like he was—are the something good that trumps the evil in the world.
