Special Contents and resources to promote the Respect and Defense of lifeRESPECT LIFE MONTH / SPECIAL
by Monica Elisa Perez Lopez | Source: Catholic.net

Since 1972 the Respect Life Month is
observed in the 195 Catholic dioceses in the US, becoming the central time of the year for the
Catholics in this country to renew their personal commitment to respect and defend life in
accordance to God’s will.
This year, this observance will
be held in the middle of a new threat for respect and defense of life because the Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS) announced back in 2011 that virtually all employers will be required
to include sterilization, abortifacient drugs and contraceptives in the health care plans offered to
employees. Only the narrowest and most inadequate provision was made to accommodate employers or
employees who object in conscience to that coverage.
In
this context, as Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston has said, this must be a time for
prayer, reflection and action to advance the right to life and to resist efforts to “silence” moral
truth and violate religious liberty.
We are urged by the
Catholic Bishops to live this month intensifying our prayers and fasting for Religious Freedom in
our country, as well during this month we should also take part by participating in prayer services
and educational conferences, engaging in public witness and advocacy, and helping to offer church
and community services to those in need.
You can also
make a pilgrimage to one of the shrines and devotional sites throughout the United States dedicated
to our Blessed Mother and many remarkable saints. You can also participate in this Respect Life
observance by joining the Holy Hour for Life and Liberty.
To help you join to this observance we prepare the
following sections for you:
We will keep posting
special contents and promoting related events in the US Dioceses. Keep visiting for
