Eschatology is the part of theology dedicated to the study of the end times.

This explanation of the Second Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians points to why the Church throughout the centuries has been very skeptical about rumors of the immediate return of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Saint John Chrysostom warned against speculations and old wives’ tales about the Antichrist, saying, “Let us not therefore enquire into these things”.

He preached that by knowing Paul's description of the Antichrist in 2 Thessalonians Christians would avoid deception.
