‘You Can't Be a Catholic and Be in Favor of Abortion’

NOTRE DAME—Archbishop Charles J. Chaput was emphatic about the US Bishops’ unity on fighting abortion. He gave a keynote address for the University of Notre Dame Right to Life Club.

Archbishop Chaput stated that "There is unity among the bishops about abortion always being wrong, and that you can't be a Catholic and be in favor of abortion.”

Archbishop Chaput was also critical about the how well bishops are defending life “There is inability among the bishops together to speak clearly about abortion, and even to say that if you're Catholic and you're pro-choice, you can't receive holy Communion,"  added the Archbishop.

He also spoke about politics, emphasizing that Catholic politician has to hold the church's position on issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.
