TAIPEI—Taiwanese Catholics and immigrant Filipino workers gathered to venerate a relic of St. John Bosco in the St. John Bosco Parish in Taipei, Taiwan.
The relic is the right palm of the Saint covered by a vestment, contained in a clear casket holding a life-size wax replica of the saint's body.
Sudanese Bishops Working for Peace
JUBA— The Sudan Catholic Bishops' Conference is calling the people of Sudan and the emerging nation of South Sudan to embrace a culture of peace and to respect human life as both regions prepare for the formal Declaration of Independence of the South in July 9th.
Incidents of violence have been reported in Southern Sudan, where more than 98 percent of voters approved independence from Sudan in a January referendum. There have been confronts between rebel factions and the army of Southern Sudan since the vote was announced. Hundreds of civilians were reportedly killed and injured.
