Dear Catholic.net Friend in Christ,
We live in difficult times. The culture of death has plagued many nations. In the US, pro-death politicians keep pouring money to support abortion on demand. Now, the endorsement of euthanasia is following suit. In Great Britain, tiny human embryos face all sorts of cruel manipulation with a variety of pretexts. Australia's abortion battle has also seen recent setbacks. And this is just the issue of life at its beginning and end. Our times are also filled with the tragedy of Christian persecution in nations such as India, Iraq and China. Latin America has been bombarded with anti-Catholic rhetoric imported from the so-called developed countries. Violence and war continue to plague so many parts of the planet, especially on the continent of Africa. And at to that, the movement to endorse same-sex unions with endless attempts to redefine marriage – demising the family -- is always making headlines.
In the midst of all of this, the Catholic Church continues to raise her voice and proclaim the truth of the human person and the solutions to our problems: Jesus. "This is my Son. Listen to him" (Matthew 17: 5). Pope Benedict XVI continues to enlighten the minds and hearts of believers and nonbelievers alike.
Meanwhile, the secular media goes on in its irresponsible pursue of profit. Their godless worldview explains the pro-death headlines and the continuing persecution of Judeo-Christian values.
How many times have we been asked, or asked ourselves, what can be done to make the voice of truth and beauty heard? How can this truly Good News make it into people's hearts and homes?
