Cross International Catholic Outreach, a Catholic relief and development ministry based in South Florida, is trying something a little different this Advent season with the recent launch of its online Christmas Gift catalog: www.giftsthatglorify.org.
Called Gifts that Glorify, this interactive online catalog allows people to browse through a list of “gifts” that can be sent to the poor overseas on behalf of a friend or family member. Visitors can choose from clothing for teens, a mosquito net, a baby care package, hygiene kits, coloring books and crayons, a medical kit, and a nutritional drink.
Once a gift is made, the donors have the option to fill out a personalized Christmas card that can be printed as a gift for the person they donated on behalf of. The online catalog also allows visitors to send a request to their loved ones, asking that they send one of the gifts to the poor on their behalf — kind of like a Christmas wish list.
“I think people are tired of the whole over commercialization of Christmas and the materialism that comes with it. I know I am,” says Nell Handley, Cross Catholic’s internet marketing director. “We wanted to give people other options this Christmas to give meaningful gifts — gifts that glorify God.”
All the gifts made through Cross Catholic’s catalog will be sent directly to the poor overseas who need them most. They will not only help meet their immediate physical needs, but they will also be a reminder of Christ’s love during this blessed season of our Savior’s birth.

Cross International Catholic Outreach (Cross Catholic) is a Catholic humanitarian organization based in South Florida that provides relief and development aid to the poorest of the poor in Christ’s name. The charity began in 2002 by helping those suffering extreme poverty in Haiti and the Caribbean, but it soon grew to include those living in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Though Cross Catholic provides emergency aid and necessities such as food, its goal is to break the cycle of poverty plaguing so many in the world by promoting education and microenterprise programs and focusing on community development. Cross Catholic partners with needy Catholic ministries serving the poor in developing countries, providing them with the financial support they lack and distributing aid through their existing programs. This style of outreach enables Cross Catholic to supply meaningful help where it is needed most, while keeping overhead costs low. The ministry’s strong ethical practices have earned it ongoing accreditation by the International Catholic Stewardship Council and recognition from the Chronicle of Philanthropy as one of the most significant non-profit organizations in the U.S.
