Stand-up comedy has never really been my thing but I found myself laughing embarrassingly loud watching the latest installment in the Thou Shalt Laugh series.
Hosted by radio personality and former Entertainment Tonight host, John Tesh, Thou Shalt Laugh 4 offers plenty of opportunities to giggle, groan, and outright guffaw.
Rex Haven’s take on car names, Joe Wong’s insight into American History, Michael Jr.’s description of the “oversaved” Christian, Dana Daniel’s psychic parrot, Isaac Witty’s defense of balding, and Taylor Mason’s talking pig, Paco, all add up to side-splitting fun. What’s unique about these comics is that they elicit our chuckles with what a friend of mine (with a corny sense of humor) calls “good clean corn.”
What makes really good comedy? The ordinary stiff (oops!) stuff of life (like typos) that we take for granted until a talented individual, like any one of these comedians, shows us what life’s like from their perspective.
Thou Shalt Laugh 4 has something for the entire family. Plays on words and double meanings get the adults going while the magic tricks and ventriloquism captures the kids. Not only are viewers blessed with the professional comedians, but a reel of ordinary people like you and me, telling jokes provides a great treat. The only thing missing from Thou Shalt Laugh 4 is a funny woman on the roster.
Doctors tell us laughing is good for health. Psychologists say that laughing at ourselves at times keeps us real. So, for Thou Shalt Laugh 4, together with Paco the pig, hearing that people were eating less pork after the outbreak of swine flu, I say, “Thank God!”
