Posada: Catholic Documentary on Immigration Launches

Jesuit film compares Hispanic immigration in the US with Holy Family journey.

Posada, reenacts the Biblical account of Joseph and Mary’s search for shelter through depiction of the Mexican popular celebration of ‘Las Posadas’. The religious celebration is contrasted with testimonies about the hardship Hispanic undocumented immigrants face in trying to enter and stay in the United States.

In
Posada, the journeys of Densi, Johny and Wilber unfold in a dramatic pilgrimage as teenagers from their homes in Central America for the United States. Each one was detained by immigration officials for several months between 1999 and 2002. Their heroic stories helped lay the foundation for future
immigrants in need of assistance.

The documentary is a Jesuit artistic response to the solidarity called by the American Bishops in Journey of Hope, the Catholic Campaign for Immigration Reform.
Posada is launched as the Catholic Church enters Advent, time of preparation of the faithful to celebrate Christmas.

Father Mark McGregor, a Jesuit Priest, is the producer and director of
Posada. “The Church is called to see the person of Christ in the immigrant and offer hospitality. This is God’s will because Jesus Himself said ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’ (Matthew 25:35). Ultimately ‘our citizenship is in Heaven’.” (Philippians 3:20) – says Father Mark. Posada is distributed by Loyola Productions, a Jesuit Apostolate dedicated to creating thought-provoking films promoting Catholic values.

Posada is part of a larger Catholic project that encourages all Dioceses, Parishes and Catholic Schools to give out an Angel Award in recognition of people who have been exemplar witnesses and advocators of solidarity with migrants. This initiative serves as reminder that the Holy Family was also refugee in Egypt.

Posada is available to retailers and direct consumers at www.LoyolaProductions.com.

Public screenings of Posada have been scheduled for:
Catholic Charities - Tacoma, WA - October 19th.
St. Francis Xavier Parish - Missoula, MT - October 21st.
