Reasons of the Heart
It is no longer Father Carlos Mora who lives, but Christ who lives in him.

A family from Guadalajara vacationing near Los Angeles headed to a local parish for Sunday Mass. After Mass, a parishioner asked them where they were from, and when he found out, asked them to wait a minute. The parish priest wanted to speak with them.
He came out and greeted the family, saying he was from Guadalajara as well, and he asked how Father Carlos Mora was doing. They were amazed. How did this priest know Father Mora?
He explained: “When I was little, it was Father Mora who invited me to become a priest, and it’s because of him that I am now.”
It was because of Christ in Father Mora that they were now priests. Father Mora LIVED next to Christ – literally. If you couldn’t find him early in the morning, you didn’t look hard enough in the chapel. He was at the front, behind the altar, right next to the tabernacle. He was closer to Jesus that way. No barriers.
During the day he would take a chair, go behind the altar again, and sit right in front of the tabernacle to pray the Psalms.
It wasn’t enough to be right next to Christ. He spoke to his Friend and Savior out loud, since no one else was present. At least that’s what he thought. Since he didn’t put in his hearing aids (after all, God doesn’t speak to your ear, but to your heart), he couldn’t hear others enter the chapel. He would tell Jesus that he loved him.
The center of his day was the Celebration of the Eucharist. The Sunday after having one of his lungs removed on account of cancer, he decided to get up and celebrate Mass. It was an agony. But he didn’t want a day to go by without holding Jesus in his hands. When he came to the consecration, he said, “This is MY body, which will be given up for you.”
He talked to the Blessed Virgin Mary about Christ too, as she had given birth to him and knew him so well. This Mother of Father Mora trained him to love Christ. Every day he prayed to her, going to the store to buy flowers for her. He would prepare the bouquet himself. He wanted to do it for her because she guided him to Christ.
And just as she did, so Father Mora guided souls to Christ. He loved Christ and enjoyed him so much that he asked young men if they wanted to become priests. He wanted them to have the same experience of Christ as he had, and it is for this that they remember him.
