The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Luke 19: 45-48
Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; and he said, "It is written, 'My house shall be a house of prayer'; but you have made it a den of robbers." Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.

Introductory Prayer: Lord Jesus, in this world that is content with doing what feels good, I want to be a beacon of light. People are so misled. They think that feeling good will bring them true and lasting happiness, and then they question why they feel empty inside. I want to tell them what they need is you!

Petition: Christ Jesus, help me love those souls who are farthest from you. Help me make my life a sacrifice for their salvation. I don’t care if I ever have a moment’s rest – souls need you, and you need me!

1. A World Waning and Dying for Lack of Christ
When we think of the world, we should think of everyone in it as our brother and sister. When we see our brothers and sisters dying, we must be moved with a desire to help them. But what does it mean to die for lack of Christ? We are told, “You only live once,” so many people try everything thinkable, including evil, to see if that is what will fulfill them and bring them happiness. The pain and the emptiness left in them by these passing sinful pleasures are hard to bear. It is as if they were being stabbed under the rib cage by a sharp thorn. Yes, we all need Christ to heal us, to nurture us back to his grace and friendship. Those who are strong must help those who are still dying.

2. Salt of the Earth
As baptized Christians, we have been blessed to receive the grace of adoption. With it, each of us has the responsibility to bring souls to know and love Christ. Being a Christian shouldn’t be something just for Sundays; it should penetrate every part of our lives, our work, our homes – any sphere in which we have influence. Christ called us the “salt of the earth.” What does salt do? Salt is a preservative and gives flavor to bland food. We are called to give lasting light to the world and to fill it with the savory delight of our Lord’s friendship.

3. My Food Is to Do the Will of the Father
The principle of faithfulness might be summed up as follows: “Do what you are doing and do it well, even if you come in contact with absolutely no one today.” If you live this principle out of love for God, souls will be saved. If you are a businessman, be the best and most just you can be out of love for God, and you will save souls. If you are a mother at home, be the most loving and caring mother you can be out of love for God, and you will save souls.

Conversation with Christ: Lord Jesus, my life is filled with many things that make it hard to live with a constant zeal. Help me to see that living my life faithfully is what will bring souls to you. If I have this attitude, I know I will be able to live my life with much more passion and zeal for souls.

Resolution: Today, I will live Christian joy as a testimony to Christ.
