The Catechism of the Catholic Church
It is a part of the Church's mission "to pass moral judgments even in matters related to politics, whenever the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls requires it. The means, the only means, she may use are those which are in accord with the Gospel and the welfare of all men according to the diversity of times and circumstances. (CCC 2246)
Ignorance of the fact that man has a wounded nature inclined to evil gives rise to serious errors in the areas of education, politics, social and morals. (CCC 407)
US Bishops
Catholics have a moral obligation to vote and with the proximity of the presidential election, American Catholics have been reminded by their bishops of our obligation to act in accordance with our Catholic conscience. “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.” (USCCB, Catholics in Political Life)
